Can you get stain for a fiber glass door in custom colors if one brings a sample of the color you need?
29 January 2011 - Altavista

Dr. Joe's Reply   Yes, a custom color can be matched in several different types of paint, depending on the appearance that you would like to achieve.

Is it true that low VOC (less than 380) paint is no longer low VOC when you add the pigment?
21 October 2010 - Stuarts Draft, VA

Dr. Joe's Reply   Most tints or colorants that are added to paint bases to create a specific color do contain VOC's, so their addition does increase the VOC of the tinted paint. Darker colors require more tint, and therefore have higher VOC's than lighter colors. Some brands of paint are now introducing zero VOC tints into the marketplace, which do not increase the VOC of tinted paints. These will become common over the next few years, as VOC containing tints are phased out.

What are the health consequences of using Davis Paints odorless Acrylic paint?
18 October 2010 - Stuarts Draft, VA

Dr. Joe's Reply   Davis Paint's low or zero VOC paints are formulated with minimal volatile organic compounds. This means that as they dry, virtually no organic vapors are emitted, so there is little or no odor, and the potential for adverse health consequences, including allergic reactions is substantially reduced or eliminated.

How much would it cost to paint match and paint an aftermarket spoiler?
15 August 2010 - Altavista Va

Dr. Joe's Reply   You will need about a pint of paint to coat the spoiler. Depending on color, the cost will be between $55-100. It would be best to bring the car to our store, to be sure that a perfect match can be done.

I want my deck stain to have a little sheen or a bit of a wet look. How can I achieve it. Also, do you like Duckhead stains?
14 August 2010 - 1201 North Main Street

Dr. Joe's Reply   The only stain on the market that is expressly designed to give that wet look is a Sikkens product, Cetol DEK Finish. It is an excellent product, both in appearance and durability. It gives the best results when used over new wood, rather than wood that has weathered and begun to crack. Duckhead stains have a reputation as a good quality product, however, they are not designed to give a wet look.
