A Peek Inside: Daryl and Johanna Calfee's Renovation

When Daryl and Johanna Calfee found a listing on Craigslist for a 1980s home right off of Timberlake Road in Lynchburg, they knew they were embarking on a different type of renovation journey. The Calfees, who are known in the local community for flipping need-to-be-loved homes in the Lynchburg area, have always leaned more toward older homes from the 20s, 30s and 40s.

When they stepped inside the home on Nelson Drive, they were instantly greeted with dark paneled walls, little light and an array of smells that would cause most potential home buyers to turn away. But, experience taught them to look further. They discovered an incredible structure to the home and a large basement with a ton of potential.

So, they got to work.

After purchasing the home, which was primarily a rental property for most of its time, they set to work on opening the floor plan. Firm believers of natural light and a calm, soothing aesthetic, the Calfees wanted to create an open, welcoming space as soon as someone entered the front door. They tore down the walls that separated the living space from the kitchen to create an open flow concept that is truly inviting.

[The home] was in all of its 80s glory and I'm not sure it had really been touched since then. It was definitely ready for a refresh. - Johanna Calfee

The Calfees partnered with James T. Davis to replace all of the paint in the home and also shopped our retail store for light fixtures. For a peek inside the aesthetic and aspirations behind the Calfees latest renovation on Nelson Drive, take a look at the video below.
