In summer of 2018, we sat down with Katrina Morris of The Morris Manor and showed you a glimpse of her life and her passion for interior design. Fast forward two years later and she is launching her very own product line within our store! The line, Katrina & Co., is a curated selection of decor items and interior design inspiration, all picked by Katrina herself. In preparation to carry these items, we talked with her again about her vision for this project, why she’s excited about it, what shoppers can expect and why it will make a wonderful addition to our store.
A Passion for Creativity
Something we share with Katrina is the idea that design is so much more than what we choose to decorate our walls with—it’s an extension of who we are and the type of environment we wish to create for ourselves and our loved ones. Katrina has studied and worked hard to refine her aesthetic. The decor items she has curated for this collection are things that she is proud of and excited about. They are items she decorates her own home with.
The decor that Katrina has hand-selected for Katrina & Co. fits farmhouse, Scandinavian and minimalist aesthetics so well. Items and furniture such as wicker chairs, wooden tables and cabinets, paintings of peaceful nature scenes, woven pillows, wooden and ceramic trays and white ceramic candlesticks combine vintage and modern themes seamlessly. They’re simple and understated, but perfectly capable by themselves of making any room look beautiful and well-organized. She wants her collection to be one that lasts for years, decades even, and which can be moved around as needed without disrupting a flow or aesthetic idea.
The Makings of a Beautiful Home
With the Katrina & Co. collection, natural beauty and classic, timeless design abound and complement one another. Earthy, light and neutral tones with clay plant pots and wooden or rattan furniture are common. They don’t call attention to themselves, but they combine to form a mood of stability that represents the old farmhouse vibe of The Morris Manor itself. Colored glass vases provide a perfect place to showcase flowers. Muted colors and beautiful woven textile patterns on pillows, rugs, throws and cloths work together, and can be mixed and matched. To Katrina, functionality and long-lasting appeal in decor choice is just as important as outward appearance.
“Home is a beautiful place, and we should feel comfortable when we walk in the door,” Katrina says. Indeed, walking into The Morris Manor feels like walking into a comfortable home. Her style is uncluttered, well-lit (with a mixture of natural and electric light) and accentuated with natural beauty and metals. This is especially true of her kitchen, where much of her inspiration comes from.
When she set out to curate items for Katrina & Co., she wanted to put an emphasis on the central hub of the home, the kitchen. The artful presentation of kitchen items and culinary dishes is important to her. She wants to enable others to experience the satisfaction that comes with making something and putting it together in a visually appealing way.
