We love the bold, bright colors that are making their way into interior design right now. But one thing we’ve noticed is that paint colors are taking a comfortable backseat and allowing stunning decor and art to shine. When we’re looking for a perfectly muted and lovely color to act as a backdrop to some of our favorite pieces, we look no further than our 2019 color of the year, Fair Maiden.
Colors that Stay with You
Delicate Fair Maiden is a color that recalls to mind fragrant eucalyptus and subtly-sweet mint chocolate chip ice cream. This nostalgia-inducing color that will outlast trends and create a harmonious backdrop in your space.
“I’ll see a celadon green room in an 18th century New Hampshire house and just fall in love. Colors stay in my head.”— Barbra Streisand
Fair Maiden should be your color choice for any room that you want to keep neutral, but not bland. The just-bright-enough hue will help white cabinets pop in a kitchen, especially when accented with Depression glass and your favorite family heirlooms. It’s also perfect for a breezy sun porch, an artistic living room or even a playful nursery.
Not quite a pastel, Fair Maiden is a blank canvas for decor of all styles and colors and is a much more visually interesting starting point than beiges or whites. An extra bonus? The misty hue will cover more blemishes (aka evidence of a real life) than the white, beige and pale counterparts.
Ways to Use Fair Maiden in Your Home
Maybe all-over color isn’t your thing (though we think we can change your mind). If you’re in love with Fair Maiden as much as we are, there are still some ways to incorporate its color into your home:
- Do you have a small room that’s lacking some definition? Paint the ceiling with this light color.
- Accent your home in a unique way by painting your doors with Fair Maiden.
- Create contrast on the upper or lower half of your walls, or even with your trim.
