Everybody needs an update once in awhile. Just like we rejuvenate our wardrobe throughout the years, our homes need a little TLC from time to time as well. Here are five ways you can spruce up your home.
Choose a Color Scheme for Your Living Space
Creating a color scheme is more than just choosing colors you gravitate toward, it’s about intentionally piecing together colors that echo the kind of environment you want for your home. Using color theory, decide what colors you want throughout your space. Want a calm, relaxing feel? Go with blue tones. Want a creative atmosphere? Stick with vivid, pigmented colors like a deep purple. Once you have your key shade, add some neutral tones and another complementary color to tie all of the colors together.
Add a Pop of Color to Your Walls
Decor is all about taking risks. So, let’s try something different from a White or eggshell wall. Adding color to your walls is a great way to set the tone for the entire room. It could be as simple as adding an accent wall or going bold and painting the entire room. Want to spice things up? Add a fun, unique wallpaper into the mix!
Shed a Little Light
Sometimes adding a few light fixtures can change the whole vibe of a room. If you’re updating a living room, try adding a couple of lamps or overhead lights. If you’re updating a dining room, add a striking chandelier. Also, don’t forget about the most important light of all—natural light! Daylight can be the finishing touch to any room. Try getting blinds and shades that diffuse the right amount of light you want in your home.
Add Accents that Match Your Color Scheme
You got the walls and the furniture all set. Now what? Add a few accent decor pieces to bring everything together. The best part is it doesn’t have to be a huge financial expense. Try adding a piece or two at a time while you build the overall look of the room. Here are a few ideas that will make your room shine:
- Add one to two fun accent pillows.
- Add a throw blanket onto a sofa or chair.
- Put up some colorful curtains.
- Purchase a local painting and display it on one of your walls.
- Got a coffee table? Decorate with books, coasters or a succulent.
Invest in Storage Furniture
No one wants clutter in the place where they unwind and relax. Part of sprucing up a room is finding a way to store items as well. If you don’t have any storage furniture already, try investing in one or two pieces and incorporate them into your home’s decor. This can be an end table with a drawer, a hutch or a storage ottoman. Then, stowaway all non-essential items, other than your accent pieces.
